Las Vegas, Friday: Mopar's Allen Johnson fell in line right behind his factory mate in the 11th slot. The Tennessee resident, who currently sits fifth in points, maneuvered his Dodge Stratus to a 6.937-second lap at 199.37 mph.
"I thought my run was going to be good enough to keep us in the top five," Johnson said. "We missed it a little bit down low, but we're pretty pleased. We know we have a couple of hundredths left in it, which would have put us well within the top five. Anytime you get above the 16th guy here in Pro Stock you have to smile a little bit. I don't know what the weather is supposed to do, but it could be a little cooler tomorrow and it should make it about equal to tonight. The sun will make the track a little slicker."
