Third Annual

Oct. 23-26
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Bruton Smith’s showcase dragstrip hosted two NHRA national events in 2002 for the second straight year and, as in 2001, the focus at penultimate event of the season was on the points battles in all four Professional categories. After tight battles all year, three of the four titles suddenly were decided here. Larry Dixon clinched the Top Fuel championship when Kenny Bernstein lost in round one and Dixon won in round two; Jeg Coughlin Jr. won Pro Stock with his first-round win; and Angelle Savoie clinched in Pro Stock Bike when Craig Treble fouled against her in the semifinals. All three went also won the event. John Force defeated Tony Pedregon in the Funny Car final to keep that chase alive until Pomona.
