Pacific Raceways
Pacific Raceways, with picturesque Mount Rainier as a backdrop, hosted its first NHRA national event in 1975. After an eight-year hiatus, it rejoined the tour in 1988 to host the Northwest Nationals, which has played a pivotal role in championship races since its return. This event is the second of three on what is called the Western swing, and last year Darrell Russell took the Top Fuel title for the second straight event. Tony Pedregon won Funny Car with a defeat of Bruce Sarver, and Jeg Coughlin Jr. scored in Pro Stock over Mark Whisnant, beating him twice when an electrical glitch in the Tree forced a rerun.

HOW TO GET THERE: The track is 10 miles east of Interstate 5 on Highway 18. From I-5, use Exit 142A (Auburn exit) and travel east 10 miles on Highway 18, following the signs to the track. From other points, use Highway 18 and exit S.E. 304th St. or S.E. 312th St.
