Houston Raceway Park
Built in 1988 as a clone of the revolutionary Texas Motorplex, Houston Raceway Park has from the beginning matched the performance reputation of its Dallas cousin. In 1999, it was the site of the sport’s first 4.4-second run, Larry Dixon’s 4.486 e.t. in Top Fuel. Last year, the facility was the site of John Force’s historic 100th Funny Car victory. Tommy Johnson Jr. was on the receiving end of the tremendous accomplishment. Kenny Bernstein won for the first time in his last year as a driver, in Top Fuel; Mike Edwards defeated Kurt Johnson in Pro Stock; and Craig Treble won the second Pro Stock Bike race of the year.

HOW TO GET THERE: Baytown is about 30 miles east of downtown Houston. The track is located 2.5 miles south of Interstate 10. From downtown Houston, take I-10 east to Highway 146 and go south to FM 565. Take FM 565 east about three miles to the track. From Highway 146 south, take Spur 55 east to FM 1405, then go north to FM 565 and east about two miles to the track
