Summit champions crowned at Top Gun
FALLON, Nev. - Kenny Teer of Torrance, Calif., picked up the biggest win of his racing career this weekend at the NHRA Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Top Gun Raceway in Fallon, Nev. Teer covered the quarter mile in 12.225 seconds at 136.68 mph in beating hometown favorite Lonnie Grace of Fallon, Nev., with a 9.629 at 138.21
"I knew I had my hands full against Lonnie. He's a great racer and I knew I needed to run my best race of the weekend," said Teer after the win. "It was a good race and I came out on top."
Teer was running in his 10th Summit Division finals picking up his first win this weekend and helping Infineon Raceway repeat as Team Champions. Infineon Raceway took home the team trophy with 132 points followed by Sacramento Raceway with 109 and hometown Top Gun Raceway in third place with 88 points.
Erik Marsik, running in the Sportsman class, drove his '71 Ford F100 to the win over Nick Arriotti of Boulder City, Nev. The Washington, Utah resident recorded a 10.825-second pass at 121.50 mph to Arriotti's 12.202, 109.88
Craig Holsey matched up with Trace St. Germain in the final of the Motorcycle class with Holsey taking the win with a pass of 9.645 seconds on his '02 Suzuki to St. Germain's 9.886, 129.34.
"This has been a such a great weekend," replied Holsey. "The track has been great, all the racers are having fun, and then winning the race tops it all off."
The Street Championship went to Danny Cole, and Don Morris took the win in High School. Cole of Orangevale, Calif., out ran Walt Stacey of Fallon, Nev., with a run of 13.946 at 96.96. Stacey ran to quick with a 13.280, 109.33 on a 13.31 dial-in. Morris, driving a '00 Silverado, was an automatic winner when Alex Gillespie red lighted. Morris went on to record a 18.283-second pass at 74.87 mph.
Teer, Marsik, Holsey, and Cole will compete for the Summit National Championship next month at Pomona Raceway during the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. Today's winners will receive $3,500 when they arrive in Pomona and will race for an additional $5,000 and the title "NHRA Summit Racing National Champion."
The following are final round results and final team standings for the NHRA Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Top Gun Raceway in Fallon, Nev. Winners in Pro, Sportsman, Street, and Motorcycle advance to the National Championship in Pomona, Calif., Nov. 7-10.
