Texas Motorplex hosts South Central Division's Summit Racing Series Finals

ENNIS, Texas - Texas Motorplex will host the 2002 NHRA South Central Division Summit Racing Series Finals Sept. 27-29. Top drivers from NHRA-member tracks across the South Central division will compete in five classes for individual and team honors. Individual champions in No-Electronic Quick, No-Electronic Street, Motorcycle and either Super Pro or Pro will advance to a run-off against the winners from NHRA's other six divisions at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November. (The winners in Super Pro and Pro have a runoff to determine who will compete in Pomona.)

Participants in the top classes will compete for cash awards of $27,150. Drivers who advance to the run-off will each receive $3,500 and the champions in each class will earn $5,000. Competitors in the High School class will earn trophies.

The team from Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Okla., won last year's event at the Texas Motorplex. Individual winners were Tommy Costales in Super Pro, Jimmy Lewis in Pro, Jeromy Hefler in No-Electronic Quick, Mark Scott in No-Electronic Street, and Larry Eperjesi in Motorcycle. Rogers took the win in the runoff to determine who would vie for the championship in Pomona.

SUMMIT RACING SERIES SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION FINALS: Fact Sheet


WHAT: Summit Racing Series, where top drivers from NHRA member tracks across the South Central division compete in five classes for individual and team honors. Individual champions will advance to a national run-off at the NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Finals at Pomona Raceway in Calif.

WHERE: Texas Motorplex, Ennis, Texas. Track is located on Hwy. 287, two miles west of Ennis between Interstates 35 and 45. From Dallas, take I-45 to Hwy. 287 west to the track, or take I-35E to Hwy. 287 east to the track. From Fort Worth, take Hwy. 287 east to Waxahachie toward the track.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29, 2002.

SCHEDULE: Time trials schedule for the Summit Racing Series South Central Division Finals:
FRIDAY, Sept. 27 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Time trials begin at 9 a.m.
SATURDAY, Sept. 28 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Final time trials begin at 9 a.m.
SUNDAY, Sept. 29 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m.

PURSE: The Summit E.T. Racing Series competitors in Super Pro, Pro, Quick and Street will compete for cash awards of $23,950. The winners in each category will advance to compete against winners from NHRA's other six divisions at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November. They will each receive $3,500 for advancing to the Finals and the winner in each class will receive an additional $5,000.

Participants in the High School category compete for trophies.
