Music City Raceway scores second team championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The NHRA Summit Racing Series Southeast Division Finals concluded today at Montgomery Motorsports Park as champions were crowned in Super Pro, Heavy, Bike and Street eliminator categories. With the conclusion of this event, the roster for the NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, Nov. 7-10 in Pomona Raceway in Pomona Calif. is complete.

By virtue of victories at the NHRA Southeast Division Summit Finals, Paul Farrar, Mike Griger, Leon Robertson and Michael Wilson are qualified to compete in the "winner-takes-all" national championship finals in November.

Greeted by celebratory cheers from his Jax Raceways team, Super Pro winner, Paul Ferrar was all smiles in the winner's circle.

"I haven't won a race all year, but I guess I finally won one when it mattered most," said Farrar. In the final, Farrar cut a nearly perfect .501 reaction time in his classic GTO to take out Music City Raceway's Leon Robertson.

Taking home the win in Pro was Huntsville Dragway's Mike Griger, who borrowed a car from Stock racer Jeff Hairrington and went on to defeat Huntsville teammate Bobby Johnson in final.

"I few weeks back I blew the transmission in my car," said Griger. "Luckily Jeff let me borrow his car. I've only raced it twice, but it's a good car and it got the job done today."

In the Super Pro Bike final, Race of Champion runner up Michael Wilson of Southeastern Dragway put his Suzuki in the winner's circle when he defeated U.S. 19 Dragway racer Robert Meeks.

Last year, Wilson's brother, Bruce, was the winner in Pro. His late sister, Michelle, won the High School title in 1998 and he dedicated the win to her memory.

A few moments after losing the Super Pro final, Robertson returned for the Sportsman final against Team Moroso Motorsports Park's Stephen DeMonaco and cashed in with a victory. Robertson, who was also runner-up in Friday's Race of Champions, drove his '80 Malibu to the victory after DeMonaco, in his '89 Chevy truck, red-lighted.

Robertson scored 15 points for the Music City Raceway team and helped them score a landslide win over second place Montgomery Motorsports Park, who finished with 41 points. The team from U.S. 19 Dragway was third with 40 points. Along with winning the coveted team championship, Music City Raceway also won the award for Team Spirit.
