Buff named interim driver for Darien & Meadows

05/15/2002

Troy

Following the departure earlier this weekend of team driver Paul Jones, Jerry Darien has announced that veteran Troy Buff will be at the controls of the Darien & Meadows A/Fuel Dragster at the O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX in Topeka.

Said Darien of his choice, "We looked at a lot of drivers – including bringing Brandon [Bernstein] back or putting 'T-Bone' [Tony Bartone] or even Gary Scelzi or Frank [Pedregon] in the car – but they all had conflicts and Buff was able to slide right in for Topeka. He has some A/Fuel Dragster experience, has a lot of desire, and knows his way around a hot rod."

"We would have liked to have had Brandon drive again because of what a great job he did for us last year, but Kenny said he was too valuable right now, especially at Topeka, where the pit and the staging lanes are too far apart. Otherwise, he said he would have been all for it. Scelz wanted to do it but couldn't get a 'hall pass' and obviously Frankie has a full-time job with Jim Dunn."
