NHRA adjusts Super Stock cylinder head usage

With the use of the "splayed valve" heads in Competition eliminator in the Super Modified ranks, the NHRA Technical department has reevaluated the use of the same heads in certain categories within Super Stock.
The term "splayed valve" will refer to any cylinder head designated as such by the original manufacturer. The changes will be effective prior to the Matco Tools NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown.
"The splayed valve adjustments for three designations in Super Stock was done to mirror the rulings in Comp eliminator," said Len Imbrogno. "In fairness across the board to our racers in Comp and Super Stock, most everyone agreed it was in the best interest of sportsman competition to limit the classes in which the splayed valve combination could compete."
The chart defines the specific classes in which the various cylinder head configuration will be allowed to compete for the 2002 season:
Hemi-, splayed-, canted-, or inline-valve configuration classes
Super Stock Modified Stock: SS/AS
Super Stock Modified: SS/AM; SS/BM
Super Stock Modified Truck: SS/TA
Canted- or inline-valve configuration classes:
Super Stock Modified Stock: SS/BS
Super Stock Modified: SS/CM; SS/DM; SS/EM; SS/FM
Super Stock Modified Truck: SS/TB
Inline-only classes:
Super Stock Modified Stock: SS/CS
Super Stock Modified: SS/GM
Super Stock Modified Truck: SS/TC
Any V-6 valve configuration:
Super Stock Modified Stock: SS/DS
Super Stock Modified: SS/GM
Super Stock Modified Truck: SS/TD
