New four-cylinder altered class created
04/02/2002
The NHRA Tech Department has received numerous calls regarding the four- and six-cylinder engines used in the Econo Altereds categories in Competition eliminator. After reviewing available information, it has been determined to separate the engine configurations into two categories.
Effective immediately, a new class designation has been created for the four-cylinder entries. The creation of the G/EA category is for inline four-cylinder, two-valve engine only. The class weight break will be determined off a 6.00 pounds per cubic inch, with a 1,100-pound minimum. The class will compete off a 9.05 index.
With the adjustment, E/EA is open to only six-cylinder engines, with all the same weights and displacements as previously used still in place.
"After an in-depth look into the categories, this was a logical decision and this is a perfect example of NHRA reacting to the racers needs," said Len Imbrogno, Director of Member Tracks & Sportsman Racing.
