Horsepower, index adjustments released

10/25/2002

Due to recent performances at national and divisional events, the NHRA Horsepower/Index Committee has released the following changes, effective Oct. 28, 2002.

The '85 Chevrolet 262-130/150 engine combination has been adjusted to 160 horsepower. The engine ran 1.50-under the index at both the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals and the Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Earlville, Iowa. The addition of 10 horsepower will make the Chevy El Camino the same horsepower as the Chevy Monte Carlo.

The second adjustment is the SS/DS index. It will be lowered from 11.65 to 11.50, based on the performance at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, at which a SS/DS entry ran 9.932 (1.178-under).
