Team Jeg's returns to Sportsman ranks in Gainesville

03/14/2002

"We are really excited about sponsoring the Jeg's Allstar race and I am looking forward to doing my part to help promote some of the Sportsman series most accomplished drivers."
-- John Coughlin

The 33rd Annual Mac Tools Gatornationals marks the return of two familiar faces to the Sportsman racing scene as brothers John and Mike Coughlin of Team Jeg's return to racing action. After racing for a number of successful years in the Pro Stock Truck class, the Team Jeg's drivers have returned to the NHRA Sportsman ranks where they have competed in a variety of classes for many years.

John Coughlin will campaign a Chevrolet Cavalier in the Super Stock class for the majority of the 2002 season. However, in Gainesville he will compete in a Mullis-built Super Comp dragster sporting the Jeg's Allstars colors. The Delaware, Ohio-based company owned by the four racing brothers assumed the role of primary sponsor of the "race within a race" held in Joliet, Ill., Saturday, Sept. 28. The event will feature the top sportsman racers from all seven NHRA racing divisions in the eight contested classes of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

"Gainesville will be like a homecoming for me," said John. "I am really eager to get back behind the wheel. We are really excited about sponsoring the Jeg's Allstar race and I am looking forward to doing my part to help promote some of the Sportsman series most accomplished drivers."

After setting the Pro Stock Truck class on fire in 2001, two-time Mac Tools U.S. Nationals champion Mike Coughlin is ready to get the 2002 season underway. Mike plans to compete in Super Comp at both regional and national levels this year. Mike will also debut a new car in Gainesville. The familiar yellow and black colors will adorn the new Jeg's Mail Order machine built by Undercover Chassis.

"I'm really excited about getting the season started," said Mike. "I have competed in the Super Comp class on a limited basis for over twelve years. It is a class that I really enjoy competing in and I'm looking forward to committing to it on a full time this season."
