Stock, Super Stock HP, index adjustments

The NHRA Stock/Super Stock Committee has reviewed the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System (AHFS) and the written requests from Sportsman racers in its evaluation of specific Stock and Super Stock horsepower and index adjustments. The changes were effective Jan. 1, 2002. The review is part of NHRA's commitment to evaluating requests from the Sportsman racing community and is an important step in NHRA's AHFS.
AHFS basics: Only national event final qualifying data, accumulated from the last time horsepowers were changed, are included in the database; any run of 1.15 seconds or more under the index or .25-second or less under the index automatically triggers a flag for analysis; engine-combination averages and class averages are then computed and analyzed to determine if a change is warranted; if the engine family or class average is 1.00-second or more under the index, an increase is initiated; the amount of change is calculated on a stepped-percentage basis; where applicable, adjustments will be in effect for the specific car model or body style being evaluated.
Further changes are scheduled, to be effective May 20, 2002.
