NHRA adjusts altitude factors for 2002

The Competition Committee recently reviewed the altitude correction factors and adjusted the minimum requirements for altitude status of NHRA member tracks for 2002. The Committee raised the minimum elevation to 1,600 feet above sea level from the previous standard of 1,300 feet.
With the adjustment, eight events that in 2001 were contested on altitude-corrected indexes have been reclassified as sea-level events for 2002. Stops at Bristol Dragway, The Colonel's Brainerd Int'l Raceway, Nebraska Motorplex, Southern Oregon Dragway, and Firebird Int'l Raceway will be affected by this change.
The adjustment leaves only six tracks --Bandimere Speedway, Douglas Int'l Raceway, Firebird Raceway, Race City Motorsports Park, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Southwestern Int'l Raceway -- which host nine events on the national and divisional schedule that will be altitude factored.
