Champions crowned in Montgomery

Montgomery, Ala. - In the final results from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event being held at Montgomery Motorsports Park, Glen Treadwell, Anthony Bertozzi, Peter Biondo, Todd Ewing, Bart Nelson, and Dwight Limbaugh all emerged victorious in Sunday afternoon's final round competition.

In Comp Eliminator, Treadwell of Sorrento, Fla., earned his first Southeast Division win in more than a year when he took won over defending division champion Mike Saye of Johnston, S.C. In previous rounds, Treadwell took out Sealed Power Low Qualifier Van Puckett, as well as competitors Scott Tidwell and Larry Pritchett before meeting Saye in the final. In a close race, Treadwell ran an 8.483-second pass at 151.03 mph to take the win over Saye, who ran a 8.925 at 144.67 mph.

In the Super Stock final it was Anthony Bertozzi of Richmond, Va., over Nashville, Tenn., driver Jimmy Bridges. While in Stock Eliminator, Northeast Division Super Stock Champion Peter Biondo of Mt. Laurel, N.J., won over Pine Mountain Valley, Ga., racer Harold Culpepper.

The Super Comp winner's circle featured local runner Todd Ewing of Cullman, Ala., who won over Ken LaBarr of Bradenton Fla. In Super Gas, it was Bart Nelson of La Port, Texas, getting over the win over Ross Laris of Lockport, La. In Super Street Decherd, Tenn., racer Dwight Limbaugh defeated Mike Ruff of Orlando, Fla.

Todd upsets defending champion Smith to take hometown win

Montgomery, Ala. -In Saturday's final results from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event being held at Montgomery Motorsports Park, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Tony Bartone and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Monty Todd took home the honors.

In an upset win Montgomery, Ala., runner Todd defeated defending champion Von Smith. Smith, who was among the favorites to win the event, was unable to match Todd's impressive 5.839-second run at 237.34 mph. In the previous round Smith, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., defeated defending Southeast Division Champion Jay Payne. The two drivers are in a tight points battle for the Southeast Division Championship.

Bartone, of Manhasset, N.Y., piloted his alcohol-powered dragster into victory lane when he defeated the Wadley, Ala., dragster of Guy Kelly. After running back-to-back 5.40s in the opening round and semifinals, Kelly slowed to a 5.635 at 250.97 mph, allowing Bartone to take the win with a 5.582-second pass at 254.09 mph.

In final qualifying action at Montgomery Motorsports Park, Comp Eliminator driver Van Puckett of Snellville, Ga., Super Stock driver Bobby Dennis of Shorter, Ala., and Stock Eliminator driver Tom Hemmingson of Concord, N.C., all captured the top spots in there respective fields.

Bartone, Payne lead Top Alcohol fields after opening rounds

Montgomery, Ala. -In the opening rounds of qualifying at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event being held at Montgomery Motorsports Park, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Tony Bartone and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Jay Payne lead their respective fields.

Bartone of Manhasset, N.Y., piloted his Top Alcohol Dragster to a 5.452-second pass at 257.70 mph to claim the top spot in the class. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Payne of Claremont, Calif., laid down a 5.880-second pass at 241.35 mph to take the lead in Funny Car.

Top qualifiers in other classes are Van Puckett of Snellville, Ga., in Competition Eliminator; Bobby Dennis of Shorter, Ala., in Super Stock; and Tom Hemmingson of Concord, N.C., in Stock.
