Stalba and Silfies earn back-to-back Northeast Division wins
ATCO, N.J. -In Sunday's final results from the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway, Gerry Russo, Michael Barsky, Peter Biondo, Kent Hanley, Tom Stalba, Jr., and Michael Silfies all scored victories in Sunday afternoon's final-round competition.
In Comp Eliminator, Russo, of Saddle River, N.J., earned his first Northeast Division win of the year when he defeated Tim Northrop, Doylestown, Pa.
In the Super Stock final it was Michael Barsky of Levittown, Pa., over Dover, Pa., driver Dennis Stewart while in Stock Eliminator Northeast Division Super Stock Champion Peter Biondo of Mt. Laurel, N.J., defeated Williamstown, N.J., racer Shane Carr. That gives Biondo two divisional wins for the year. His last divisional win was claimed in the Southeast Division at Montgomery Motorsports Park.
The Super Comp winner's circle featured the red-hot dragster of Kent Hanley of New Town, Conn., who won over Walter Ott. This was the third Northeast Division Super Comp final in a row for Hanley and his second win.
In Super Gas, Tom Stalba of Williamstown, N.J., got his second win in a row when he took out Ed Alessi, Jr., of Valley Stream, N.Y. In Super Street, Robert Silfies of Easton, Pa., was also a repeat winner when he took out Anthony Caridi, Sr., of Levittown, N.Y.
In Saturday's competition Top Alcohol Dragster driver Art Gallant, of Boxboro, Mass., piloted his dragster into victory lane when he defeated Severna, Pa., runner Steve Lamplough while in Top Alcohol Funny Car, defending NHRA National Champion Frank Manzo of Morganville, N.J., defeated Paul Gill to take home the crown.
Yesterday's win was the third 2002 Northeast Division win for Manzo in as many races. He remains unbeaten in 21 consecutive rounds of NHRA Northeast Division competition. Gallant's win was his second of the year.

Manzo extends Northeast Division winning streak to three
ATCO, N.J. -In Saturday's final results from the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Art Gallant and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Frank Manzo both emerged victorious.
In Top Alcohol Dragster, Gallant, of Boxboro, Mass., piloted his dragster into victory lane when he defeated Severna, Pa., runner Steve Lamplough. After setting low elapsed time of the event in the previous round with a 5.457-second run at 252.47 mph against defending NHRA Northeast Division Champion Cliff Bozzelli, Gallant improved to a 5.439 at 259.36 in the final to rocket past Lamplough, who coasted to a 12.187-second pass at 74.06 mph. This is the second Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series victory for Gallant, who, scored an NHRA Southeast Division win earlier in the year in Gainesville, Fla.
In a holeshot victory, defending NHRA National Champion Manzo of Morganville, N.J., defeated Paul Gill to take home the crown in Top Alcohol Funny Car. Reacting with a .472, Manzo was able to hold off Gill, of Brockton, Mass., with an elapsed time of 5.796 seconds at 251.63 mph to Gill's 5.784-second run at 252.24 mph. This is the third 2002 Northeast Division win for Manzo in as many races. He remains unbeaten in 21 consecutive rounds of NHRA Northeast Division competition.
In the final qualifying results from Atco Raceway, the Sealed Power Low Qualifiers in each class were Bozzelli, Manzo, Dave Northrop, Byron Worner, and Art Leong.
Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J., ran a 5.521-second pass at 255.19 mph to take the top spot in Top Alcohol Dragster. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Manzo clocked a 5.883 second pass at 250.64 mph. Northrop of Perkasie, Pa., drove his '95 Oldsmobile to the top spot in Comp with an 8.220 pass. Worner of Duncannon, Pa., took his '88 Cutlass to the pole in Super Stock by running a 10.577-second pass. Both Northrop and Worner earned $400 for their efforts while Leong of Brooklyn, N.Y., earned $200 for taking the pole behind the wheel '91 Dodge in Stock.

Bozzelli and Manzo lead Top Alcohol fields
ATCO, N.J. -In the opening rounds of qualifying at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series being held at Atco Raceway, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Cliff Bozzelli and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Frank Manzo are leading their respective fields.
Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J., piloted his Top Alcohol Dragster to a 5.521-second pass at 257.92 mph to claim the top spot in the class. While in Top Alcohol Funny Car Manzo of Morganville, N.J., laid down a 5.833-second pass at 250.64 mph to take the lead in Funny Car.
Top qualifiers in other classes are Dave Northrop of Perkasie, Pa., in Competition Eliminator; Ray Scardelli of Manalapan, N.J., in Super Stock; and Art Leong of Brooklyn, N.Y., in Stock.

Atco Raceway hosts Division 1 Lucas Oil event
ATCO, N.J. - The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway is the third of seven races in NHRA's Northeast Division. The event, June 21-23, will feature more than 550 drivers in eight racing categories, including 260-mph Top Alcohol Dragsters (TAD) and Top Alcohol Funny Cars (TAFC).
Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC) drivers will again have their hands full, competing against defending national and divisional champion Frank Manzo. Manzo, who resides in Morganville, N.J., has seven TAFC national championships, including five in the last five years. He also has 11 division titles to his credit. On his way to the 2001 titles, Manzo won five divisional races and six NHRA national events. However, Schenectady, N.Y., resident Bob Newberry has already run several NHRA events and is always tough competition for Manzo. On the national event level, Manzo has one win this season and Newberry scored runner-up points.
In Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD), defending division champion Cliff Bozzelli hopes to repeat as champion. The Absecon, N.J., resident has been runner-up at two NHRA national events. Bozzelli won here a year ago on his way to five divisional wins and one national event victory. Several drivers will by trying to take the crown from Bozzelli, including Boxboro, Mass., resident Art Gallant and Billy Gibson of Chaptico, Md.
Gates at Atco Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials begin Friday at 10 a.m. Qualifying for a Pro Truck exhibition is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. TAD and TAFC will qualify at 7 p.m. Saturday, racing starts at 9:30 a.m. Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street will all run first round of eliminations starting at 2 p.m. TAD and TAFC will get one qualifying pass at 1 p.m., and will run all rounds of eliminations starting at 5 p.m. Pro Truck qualifying will continue at 7:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. A Pro Mod exhibition is scheduled to make a qualifying pass at 6:30 p.m. and begin eliminations at 7:30 p.m. Jet Cars are also scheduled at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Eliminations continue Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Pro Truck eliminations are scheduled at noon.
General admission tickets, including pit pass, are $15 Friday, $22 Saturday, and $17 Sunday. A three-day pass is $50 and a Saturday/Sunday ticket is $35. Children under 12 are admitted free with a paid adult and all active-duty military personnel receive a $5 discount.
The event is part of a 45-race, $6.5 million series contested across the country. Drivers are competing for a part of a $561,000 champions' purse. They will earn points leading to national and divisional titles as well as a berth on the team that will represent the Northeast Division at the Jeg's Allstar event in September.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Lucas Oil, which will be shared by 2002 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional champions and national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $220,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 45 Lucas Oil events and the 23 NHRA national events: $1,250 each in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car; $400 each in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock; and $200 in Stock. (TAD and TAFC compete at 16 of 23 national events.)
JEG'S ALLSTARS: The best of the best from each of NHRA's seven divisions will compete for a share of the $100,000 point fund from Jeg's High Performance. The 2002 Jeg's Allstars event will culminate a year-long points battle between drivers in each of NHRA's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series' eight classes. The top points earner in each category will qualify to represent his/her division at the 2002 Jeg's Allstars, held in conjunction with the NHRA Nationals in Chicago, Sept. 26-29, 2002. Points are based on in-division races only.
The winning division's team will share $20,000 and individual awards include $7,000 each to the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car champions, $6,000 to champions in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock, and $4,500 to the Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street champions. Runners-up in all categories will earn $2,000 apiece. Each Allstars competitor will also receive a share of a $20,000 towing fund to get to the event.
FEATURES: More than 550 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, featuring five-second, 260 mph side-by-side racing.
