Manzo wins sixth straight title and eighth of his career
Maybe the truest measure of Frank Manzo's unquestioned rule since 1997 is that his 42-4 win-loss record this season is his worst in years, and he still won the championship in a landslide. The only thing he didn't do was have another perfect season.

"What am I going to say?" Manzo asked. "That I didn't have a great year? I did. I cherish every one of these [championships] because I know how hard they are to get." Manzo won the title for the eighth time in his illustrious career and for the sixth year in a row. Only immortals John Force (12) and Bob Glidden (10) have more, and only Force has more consecutively (10).

Stock, Super Stock HP letter responses
The NHRA Stock/Super Stock Committee has reviewed written requests received by Dec. 15, from Lucas Oil Sportsman racers in its evaluation of specific Stock and Super Stock horsepower adjustments and has made the noted changes.

Racer soundoff: Stock cylinder heads
With the 2003 season just around the corner, the NHRA Technical department will be conducting opinion polls throughout the winter, on some of the hottest topics. This week, the NHRA Technical department is soliciting opinions on the current cylinder head situation in Stock Eliminator.

Stock, Super Stock horsepower adjustments
Stock/Super Stock horsepower and index changes, produced by the Automatic Horsepower Factoring System (AHFS), were released Dec. 17. This is the third round of scheduled changes for 2002. All changes will be in effect beginning Jan. 1, 2003. It should be noted that these changes include only results produced by the AHFS.

NHRA Lucas Oil Comp champ Mike Saye
Just as he did in 2001, Mike Saye battled Don Stratton for the Comp championship right down to the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. Unlike last year, however, when Stratton won the event and stole the crown practically from Saye's head, fate smiled kindly on the South Carolina engine builder and Saye was crwoned champion for the second time in his career.

NHRA releases revisions to wiring of electronics
In an effort to better clarify the wiring of delay boxes, data recorders, tachometers, and other related devices, NHRA has developed rule revisions to the 2003 NHRA Rulebook, specific to the Super classes.

Anthony Bertozzi: '02 NHRA Super Stock champ
After winning the 2001 NHRA Super Stock championship, Peter Biondo encouraged his good friend, IHRA star Anthony Bertozzi, to pursue an NHRA title. Twelve months later, Bertozzi has supplanted Biondo as the top Super Stock racer in NHRA competition.

No changes to Comp indexes in 2003
Much speculation has been floating around on the Internet and other sources about the possible pending changes to Comp indexes. The NHRA Tech department and the Competition Eliminator Committee unanimously agreed that no indexes, for any Comp classes, will be adjusted prior to the start of the 2003 season.
