Contingency program requirements for 2002

All registered contestants have the opportunity to participate in NHRA's contingency programs. All programs administered from the Glendora, Calif., office (for NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events, NHRA Sportsman Drag Racing Series divisonal events, and NHRA Summit Racing Series) are advertised in National DRAGSTER. The Sportsman Drag Racing Series and Summit Racing Series listings are also published in division newsletters. To be eligible for advertised awards, competitors must have:

  1. Purchased and used product claimed.
  2. Displayed contingency decals for the duration of the event.

Those two basic requirements are required by the following sponsors:

Majors - AFT, ARP, Angus, Autolite/Fram/Prestone, Craftsman, Dart, Federal-Mogul, Fluidampr, Ford, Goodyear, Hoosier, Hughes, Jeg's, MSD, Mac Tools, Matco Tools, Moroso, Moser, Pace American, Painless Wiring, Phoenix, Stef's/B&B, Strange.

Associates - A-1, Bill Miller, Brodix, Hogan's, Isky, Lamb. Divisional only - Calvert Racing.

The following sponsors require that racers sign an advertising release in addition to product use and decal display:

Majors - Aeromotive, B&M, Barry Grant, Crane, Dynomax, Edelbrock, JE Pistons, K&N, Mickey Thompson, RCI, Richmond, SplitFire/Herculiner/Peak.

Associates - K-Motion, Milodon.

The following sponsors require proof of purchase in addition to product use and decal display:

Majors - Featherlite, Jerry Bickel, Kendall, Monaco/Holiday Rambler, Winnebago-Itasca.

The following sponsors require both an advertising release and proof of purchase in addition to product use and decal display:

Majors - Childs & Albert, Competition Cams, Eagle One/Pyroil/Valvoline/Zerex, GM Parts, Hedman, J.W. Performance, Mechanix Wear, Ringers, Summit, Sunoco, TCI, VP Fuels.

Associates - Coan Engineering, Dynamic Converters, Red Line.

The following sponsors have specific requirements as noted in addition to product use and decal display:

Majors:
ATI - no decal stacking
ACCEL/ERSON/HAYS/HURST/MALLORY/MR. GASKET - advertising release, specific product decal, no stacking or painted decals, no conflicting decals, no dual claims
AEROQUIP - 60 percent of hose fittings on vehicle must be Aeroquip
AMERICAN RACING WHEELS - all four wheels with manufacturer's center caps must be on chase/tow vehicle/trailer for the entire event. AUTO METER (Data Acquisition) - Data Acquisition decal 3 3/4 x 9 1/8 inches, Data Logger, Playback Tach, Playback Box (Gauges) Competition Instruments decal 3 3/4 x 9 1/8 inches, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Voltmeter
CSI - proof of purchase (original purchaser only), warranty and registration form with preprinted serial number on file
CASTROL - advertising release, filing of contingency sign-on sheet
CENTER LINE - all four wheels
CHEVROLET - 1998-2002 model years
FORD - vehicle including engine, engine-only acceptable in open-bodied vehicle
GM SPO - GM passenger cars/trucks years 1955-1980, Restoration Parts decal
HARRIS CALORIFIC - registration card on file with product UPC code
HAULMARK - proof of purchase, current DMV registration, trailer used at NHRA event claimed, advertising release
HOLLEY - all products installed, functional on race vehicle, no conflicting decals (HP Carburetor) no competitor/modifier name/initials on carb (Hooker) approved contingency ID tag, visible under hood (NOS) NOS Injector decal on product
J.W. PERFORMANCE (flywheel) - product must be less than three years old from purchase date, bought directly from factory/authorized distributor, original purchaser (Ultra-Bell) must be recertified every five years to receive contingency
JERRY BICKEL (JBRC/Koni Struts) - will pay on JBRC/Koni rear shocks for non-strut categories
JET HOT - advertising release, proof of purchase, contingency paid for 24 months from time coating is purchased
LENCO - proof of purchase, High Gear Reverse transmission with Lenco-manufactured input shaft verifi by Lenco rep
LINCOLN ELECTRIC - TIG or MIG only, no stick, advertising release, proof of purchase, registration card
MANLEY - proof of purchase, decal specific for product claimed
MARK WILLIAMS - proof of purchase, serial number (Disc Brake Kit) complete 70000 series with MW calipers (Driveshaft) with slip yoke
MOPAR - proof of purchase, Mopar Performance part number, product installed/functional on Mopar engine
MR. MOTO WASH - proof of purchase, advertising release, purchase of one case of quarts or one five-gallon pail in the 2002 season or one gallon per national event, purchased at midway display
PONTIAC/GMC - advertising release, complete vehicle including engine, model years 1998-2002
ROYAL PURPLE - proof of purchase, advertising release, registration at midway display
SIMPSON - logo patch on product 3.2A/5 pants, jacket, gloves parachute purchased after 1/1/99
TURBO ACTION - advertising release, serial number
U.S. GEAR - registration card, proof of purchase on file prior to event claimed
VP MOTOR OIL - proof of purchase, advertising release, purchase of one case per claimed event or one five-gallon pail for 2002 season, VP Racing Synthetic Oil decal
WELD/CRAGAR - all four wheels on race vehicle
XRP - approved decal prominently displayed on opposite outside surfaces of vehicle, clearly legible from perpendicular, level-side photographic perspective, no decal displayed on top, underside, or inside surfaces of wings, spoilers, fairings, spill plates, or running boards.

Associates:
ALTRONICS - proof of purchase, advertising release, contingency paid for five years from date of purchase
BIONDO - advertising release, proof of purchase, owner/driver registration form submitted prior to posted event
COAN ENGINEERING (transmission) - assembled by Coan, Coan Engineering serial number stamped on product
TORCO - purchase form filled out completely by product dealer/distributor.

Divisional only:
COMPUTECH SYSTEMS - product purchased within 24 months of event claimed
EAST COAST ELECTRIC - proof of purchase, registration card on file
VP ENGINE COOLANT - proof of purchase, advertising release, cool-down decal, purchase of one bottle per event or one case per season.

Note: Decals must be in a prominent position on outer surfaces, clearly visible on both sides of the race vehicle for the product claimed. Maximum size required is 36 square inches. Cut-down or modified decals are not allowed. Painted version must be exact facsimile (size, color, design) of sponsor's contingency decal. A separate decal may be required for each product posting. Decal stacking requires sponsor's permission. For national event participants, decals must be obtained directly from sponsors. At divisional events, participants may obtain decals from the NHRA trailer.
