Only Indianapolis Raceway Park and Pomona Raceway have been around longer than National Trail Raceway, which has hosted an NHRA national event in the second week of June since 1972. In recent years the event has produced some of drag racing's biggest surprises, such as Chuck Harris' only win in Pro Stock in 1996 and Phil Burkart Jr.'s stunning Funny Car victory in 1999.
