Heartland Park Topeka

Heartland Park Topeka, which has hosted at least one NHRA national event every year since 1989, again will host the O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals in 2002. Last year, the event moved from its traditional fall date to May. Last year Kenny Bernstein won Top Fuel for the second straight event to move into the points lead for the first time since his 1996 championship year. Mike Dunn's No. 1 4.495 was the first 4.4 e.t. on 90 percent nitro. Tony Pedregon also won Funny Car for the second straight event, again defeating boss John Force in the final. Ron Krisher won Pro Stock.

HOW TO GET THERE: The track is on Topeka Boulevard where it intersects Gary Ormsby Drive, four miles south of Interstate 470. From Kansas City, take the Kansas Turnpike (I-70) to the Topeka Boulevard exit and travel south to the track. From Wichita, take the Kansas Turnpike (I-335) to the Topeka Boulevard exit and travel south to the track. From I-470, take the Topeka Boulevard exit and travel south to the track.
