Nationals presented by Pontiac listing lane, driver name, elapsed time,

Right Lane: Charlie Greco Runs 6.964/198.41, Now #1
4:09 PM Greco makes a decent pass, right down the groove.
Left Lane: Larry Peternel No Time, Now #3
Right Lane: Eric Shelton Runs 7.251/191.89, Now #2
Peternel comes off the line, gets about fifty feet out and the car
noses
over. He makes it just past half-track and has to be towed off the
track. Shelton
shakes the tires right off the line but keeps it in the groove for a
full
pass.
Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 7.640/134.30, Now #3
Right Lane: David Strouse Jr.Runs 9.060/104.52, Now #4
Benza gets out of the groove early and moves around all the way
through the
run. Strouse shakes the tires, gets out of the groove and aborts the
run.
Left Lane: Mike Weinle Runs 7.288/189.34, Now #3
Right Lane: Mike Trumble Jr Runs 10.818/82.09, Now #6
Trumble gets loose early and shuts down. Weinle shakes the tires,
gets out of
shape but stays with it for a full pass.
Left Lane: Don Smith Runs 8.298/120.61, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.989/196.33, Now #2
Smith gets out of the groove, heads for the centerline and has to
back off
the throttle. Thomas makes a decent pass for the conditions and gets in
at the
second spot for now.
Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 12.810/67.14, Now #10
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.714/136.75, Now #6
Nobile gets way out of shape about 700 feet out, heads for the
wall and has
to shut down. Watson shakes the tires and shuts down early.
Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 12.656/72.56, Now #11
Right Lane: Jamie Yates Runs 7.595/140.39, Now #5
Wilson shakes the tires right off the line and shuts down. Yates
was on a
decent pass until the 1000 foot mark, then gets out of shape and shuts
down. We get
word there is rain coming down on the top end and will have to shut down
for
now.
Left Lane: Larry Nance Runs 7.497/143.44, Now #6
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.953/199.55, Now #1
8:08 PM and we're racing again after a long rain delay. This will
be the only
session that will be run tonight with two more scheduled for tomorrow.
The track
temp is about 80 degrees, the conditions are about the same as they were
in the
Friday night session in Houston and the air is about 900 feet better
than it was
earlier today.
Nance gets out of shape and just past half-track and slows. Johnson
takes over the
pole for now.

Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 6.918/198.73, Now #1
No problems for these two, both right down the groove, and they
take the top
two spots in the field for now.
Left Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 8.101/122.13, Now #15
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.976/198.29, Now #6
Whisnant has a pretty good sixty-foot time, a 1.028, but gets out
of the
groove around half-track and has to shut down. No apparent problems for
Morgan.
Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 7.067/196.79, Now #9
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.932/198.26, Now #2
Pawuk makes a good run and gets in the top half of the field for
now. Martino
gets in but may not make it through this session.
Left Lane: JR Carr Runs 6.979/198.88, Now #9
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.926/198.41, Now #2
Carr makes a move toward the wall right off the line, gets it back
in the
groove and makes a decent pass. Coughlin keeps it in the groove and gets
in the two
spot for now.
Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.890/200.56, Now #1
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.906/198.79, Now #2
Anderson had a 1.020 sixty-foot time, Coughlin with a 1.016, but
Anderson
drives around at the 1000-foot mark and takes the number one spot for
now.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 7.399/151.44, Now #16
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 7.863/126.93, Now #22
Hammonds gets out of the groove and has to shut down early.
Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.909/199.14, Now #3
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.924/199.52, Now #5
Allen has a good sixty-foot time, a 1.014, and keeps it in the
groove to get
in the third spot for now.
Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.904/200.02, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 7.641/139.01, Now #24
Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.899/200.92, Now #2
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.916/198.96, Now #6
Krisher has a slow sixty-foot time, a 1.056, but comes on strong
on the top
end and gets in the second spot.
Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.935/198.99, Now #12
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.863/201.46, Now #1
Johnson has a mediocre sixty-foot time, a 1.025, but makes a top
end charge
to take the pole after the first round of qualifying.
