Houston Raceway Park
Built in 1988 as a clone of the revolutionary Texas Motorplex, Houston Raceway Park has from the beginning matched, if not exceeded, the performance reputation of its Dallas cousin. In 1999, it produced national records in four of the five Professional classes: Larry Dixon in Top Fuel (4.486), John Force in Funny Car (4.788), Warren Johnson in Pro Stock (202.36), and Matt Hines in Pro Stock Bike (191.48). Last year, Mike Dunn recorded the then-fastest run (331.61) in NHRA history en route to his first of two Top Fuel victories. Funny Car winner Del Worsham qualified No. 1 for the first time in 10 years and beat Force in the final, and Johnson won Pro Stock for the second time in three events.ADDRESS: Mailing Address: P.O. HOW TO GET THERE: Baytown is about 30 miles east of downtown Houston. The track is located 2.5 miles south of Interstate 10. From downtown Houston, take I-10 east to Highway 146 and go south to FM 565. Take FM 565 east about three miles to the track. From Highway 146 south, take Spur 55 east to FM 1405, then go north to FM 565 and east about two miles to the track
