Firebird Int'l Raceway
Firebird Int'l Raceway has been a regular stop on the NHRA Winston Drag Racing circuit since 1985. Built by former Funny Car racer Charlie Allen, the multipurpose facility hosted the Fallnationals until 1990, when the event was moved from October to February. As a result of the schedule change, the track has produced some of the sport's all-time-best numbers. In 1999, Tony Schumacher recorded the sport's first 330-mph run (330.26). Last year Doug Kalitta won Top Fuel over rookie Darrell Russell, John Force won Funny Car over that class' first all-four second field to give one of his two tuners, Austin Coil, his 100th career win, and Warren Johnson got past Brad Jeter in the Pro Stock final.ADDRESS: 20000 Maricopa Road, Box 5023, Chandler, AZ 85226

HOW TO GET THERE: The track is 10 miles south of Phoenix and just minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl Airport. From Phoenix, take Interstate 10 east to the Maricopa exit (162A). From Tucson, take I-10 west to the Maricopa exit (162B)
