Alcohol Funny Car at the 42nd annual K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Bucky Austin (Bucky's Muffler '01 Firebird) 0.515 5.667 254.28
 (L) Dale VanGundy (Van Gundy & Clark '98 Camaro)0.554 7.870 154.00
Van Gundy shakes the tires and Austin takes the win.
 (W) Pat Austin (IRC Performance Push Rods '02 Fi0.468 5.662 254.52
 (L) Dennis Taylor (Cooner Wire '02 Camaro) 0.473 5.839 245.90
The second Austin in the field gets another round win. Both drivers had great lights. BTW, we just learned that Lucas Oil will be the new series sponsor for these sportsman cars. Good news for all as this is a multi year deal with details to follow.
 (W) Jay Payne (Valvoline '02 Camaro) 0.554 5.651 252.24
 (L) John Patton (Foolish Money II '99 Trans Am) 0.619 5.968 210.11
Patton is late and that's something you just can't do as Payne has been running great numbers. Here Jay sets low ET of the first round to this point.
 (W) Steve Gasparrelli (Prisms Unlimited '00 Fire0.465 5.740 252.33
 (L) Bernie Harrington (Harrington Motorsports '00.460 5.878 247.75
Another pair that can cut some great lights. They leave the line together but it's Gasparrelli that pulls away at every marker.
 (W) Doug Gordon (MB Cabinets '01 Camaro) 0.439 5.764 251.91
 (L) Mert Littlefield (Littlefield Blowers '99 Ca0.502 19.336 44.71
Gordon cuts a psychic light. Littlefield gets loose and it's Gordon taking the easy win.
 (W) Jon Capps (Jackson Racing '97 Cutlass) 0.430 6.074 198.55
 (L) Norm Hill (EngineMasters.com '00 Daytona) 0.509 6.759 155.17
Capps got a great start but it's Norm Hill that makes the noise. Hill has a blower go bang and you hear that horrible whine that the rotors make after an explosion. Capps gets the win but it seems that the Safari has rolled and they are laying down some sweep at and after the finish line. You could tell that something was wrong with Capps' racer since he was running 196 at half track and only 198 at the stripe.
 (W) Pete Swayne (espriTV '00 Firebird) 0.434 5.784 250.37
 (L) Ed Marx (Marx Motorsports '00 Avenger) 0.469 5.757 247.97
Swayne takes out the higher seeded driver with a very nice hole shot. Swayne won with a slower ET. Nice driving! MOV: 0.0083 seconds (approximately 3 feet). Swayne was trailing from 60 feet to 1000 feet before taking back the lead to the finish:
Margin 60ft(-0.036) 330ft(-0.009) 660ft(-0.004) 1,000ft(0.001)

E Mar: 60ft-0.962 sec., 330ft-2.545, 660ft-3.788/199.61mph, 1,000ft-4.852
P Swa: 1.033 2.589 3.827/200.08 4.886
 (W) John Weaver (Dream Weaver '01 Firebird) 0.502 5.700 248.34
 (L) Bret Williamson (Team Eagle '01 Corvette) 0.576 5.836 217.77
Weaver gets the win but it was expensive for Williamson. At about 1000 feet there was a big boom from the Red, White and Blue car and parts were going everywhere. Ouch.

 (L) Jon Capps (Jackson Racing '97 Cutlass) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Capps was a no-show and Payne takes the long way down the track.
 (W) Pat Austin (IRC Performance Push Rods '02 Fi0.471 5.634 255.19
 (L) Pete Swayne (espriTV '00 Firebird) 0.502 5.719 251.06
Pat just unloads on Swayne. That was Austin's quickest of the weekend.
 (W) Bucky Austin (Bucky's Muffler '01 Firebird) 0.488 5.561 256.11
 (L) John Weaver (Dream Weaver '01 Firebird) 0.430 5.795 243.33
Uncle Bucky just sets the Alcohol Funny Car world on it's ear. I know there are lots of racers reading this so take a good look at the numbers.
 (W) Doug Gordon (MB Cabinets '01 Camaro) 0.435 5.763 251.72
 (L) Steve Gasparrelli (Prisms Unlimited '00 Fire0.473 5.730 251.39
Gordon steals one from Gasparrelli. Gordon is first off the line and holds it all the was to the stripe. MOV: 0.0058 seconds (approximately 2 feet). Next round Bucky will have lane choice over Gordon and Pat Austin has choice over Payne.

 (L) Jay Payne (Valvoline '02 Camaro) 0.454 11.537 73.16
1:54 PM Big problems for both lanes as both cars rattle the tires and have to man handle the cars back to the center of the track. Payne has to lift to keep from going over the center line.
 (W) Bucky Austin (Bucky's Muffler '01 Firebird) 0.486 5.609 256.55
 (L) Doug Gordon (MB Cabinets '01 Camaro) 0.445 5.811 226.77
Gordon has a very difficult situation after Austin's performance last round. He is away first, but Bucky stomps him going on down the track.

 (L) Bucky Austin (Bucky's Muffler '01 Firebird) 0.518 5.920 190.11
The family feud comes to the starting line. This certainly isn't the first time these two have faced each other in eliminations but this time it's most certainly Uncle Bucky that comes in with the performance advantage. Performance was no criteria in this one. Something goes wrong with Bucky's racer and Pat drives around for the win.
