Results for Elimination Round 1 POMONA, Calif. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the 42nd annual K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals:W/L Driver RT ET Speed (W) Cory McClenathan (Henkelman/Baca Dragster) 0.484 4.731 304.32 (L) Rhonda Hartman-Smith (Fram Filters Dragster)0.507 4.766 270.1010:31 AM The call is out to 'Fire the first pair'. Too bad it wasn't Buster making the call. Close race but it's Cory Mac taking his first round win of his new career. Hartman lost traction first at half track but Cory's racer began losing grip at around 1100 feet. There was a big puff of smoke from the engine in Hartman's car but track officials fail to find any oil.
MOV: 0.0581 seconds (approximately 23 feet).(W) Don Lampus (MADD Dragster) 0.508 4.665 315.56 (L) Doug Herbert (Snap-On Tools Dragster) 0.493 6.291 142.19Lampus was second off the line but Herbert had problems keeping traction in the right lane. He was smoking the tires before 60 feet. Lampus has a big plume of smoke trailing the car as he reached the lights.(W) Clay Millican (Werner Dragster) 0.526 4.638 319.98 (L) Yuichi Oyama (Gava King Dragster) 0.519 10.767 81.36Oyama-san is making his NHRA debut and winds up smoking the tires big time. Millican lays down a nice pass to take the round one win.(W) Kenny Bernstein (Budweiser King Dragster) 0.487 4.598 320.28 (L) David Grubnic (Montana Express Dragster) 0.490 4.667 310.13Nice side by side affair between Bernstein and Grubnic. Big Red pulled away at about two hundredths per interval. That's low ET of the first round to this point.(W) John Smith (Fram Filters Dragster) 0.505 4.901 286.68 (L) Andrew Cowin (N.Y. Yankees Dragster) 0.492 5.386 259.46Cowin brings the Gwynn/Yankees Top Fuel car into the beams against John Smith. Smith is in his first elimination round after last season's crash. Well, this won didn't go as advertised! Cowin smokes the tires and Smith takes the win even though he had cylinders out in both banks of the engine. Cory Mac will have lane choice over Smith in the second round.(W) Wyatt Radke (Western Rock Co. Dragster) 0.572 4.789 301.33 (L) Tony Schumacher (US Army Dragster) 0.528 6.024 172.34Another big upset in round one. Schumacher strikes the tires and Radke stays stuck to the racing surface and takes the win. Millican has lane choice over Radke in round two.(W) Doug Kalitta (MAC Tools Dragster) 0.504 4.566 325.53 (L) Scott Weis (Race Girl Dragster) 0.536 4.769 286.07Kalitta returns thing to form as he takes the win over Weis. Both racers made good runs but Kalitta powered out the win. Kalitta will have lane choice over Bernstein in the next round.(W) Larry Dixon (Miller Lite Dragster) 0.478 4.992 274.27 (L) Darrell Russell (Bilstein Eng. Flush Dragste0.500 6.659 215.68Here comes the final pair of Top Fuel cars in the first round. Dixon was there for the pickin' as he smokes the tires in the midrange. Problem was that Russell blew the tires off in the first ten feet. He got back on the pedal but can't catch Dixon. Lampus will have choice over Dixon next round.

Results for Elimination Round 2 POMONA, Calif. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Top Fuel at the 42nd annual K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals:W/L Driver RT ET Speed (W) Cory McClenathan (Henkelman/Baca Dragster) 0.523 6.557 130.53 (L) John Smith (Fram Filters Dragster) 0.468 8.333 134.2212:36 PM Well, someone has to win. Smith blows the tires off the car and the next thing I saw was McClenathan with raw fuel coming out of all eight. It was a real coasting contest. In replay it appeared that a belt came off of Cory Mac's racer.(W) Larry Dixon (Miller Lite Dragster) 0.475 4.708 318.77 (L) Don Lampus (MADD Dragster) 0.493 8.705 84.40Lampus lights the tires early in the run and Dixon smoked 'em at about 330. Dixon gives the throttle a slap and still manages a 4.70.(W) Clay Millican (Werner Dragster) 0.511 4.770 312.71 (L) Wyatt Radke (Western Rock Co. Dragster) 0.574 4.814 302.96Now that's a nice dragrace. Millican got the light but Radke was actually quicker to the eighth mile. Millican pulled away from there to the finish.(W) Kenny Bernstein (Budweiser King Dragster) 0.477 5.013 204.94 (L) Doug Kalitta (MAC Tools Dragster) 0.309(R) 4.670 268.28Kalitta can't wait for the tree and turns on the red bulb. Bernstein was there for the taking as the engine went away beginning at about 1000 feet. Next round Bernstein has choice over Cory Mac and Dixon has choice over Millican.

Results for Elimination Round 3 POMONA, Calif. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Top Fuel at the 42nd annual K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals:W/L Driver RT ET Speed (W) Kenny Bernstein (Budweiser King Dragster) 0.493 4.598 323.27 (L) Cory McClenathan (Henkelman/Baca Dragster) 0.486 4.643 317.422:12 PM McClenathan is going home after this pair but what a first weekend for a new team. Cory got a small lead at the hit but the Bud car just had to much power. Bernstein stayed in the middle of his lane but Cory Mac had his hands full and he did cross the center line after the finish.(W) Larry Dixon (Miller Lite Dragster) 0.471 4.580 324.98 (L) Clay Millican (Werner Dragster) 0.497 4.705 317.79It's rumored that today is Millican's 36th birthday. The one present he's not going to get is a trip to the final round. Dixon unloads his best of the day on Millican and gets that trip to the final. Dixon also won lane choice over Bernstein in the final round.

Results for Final Round POMONA, Calif. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Top Fuel at the 42nd annual K&N Filters NHRA Winternationals:W/L Driver RT ET Speed (W) Larry Dixon (Miller Lite Dragster) 0.449 4.535 324.75 (L) Kenny Bernstein (Budweiser King Dragster) 0.467 4.612 324.673:54 PM This looks just like last season as the two 'Beer' stage up in another final round. Last season it was Bernstein with enough wins to garner the Championship. This year...who knows! But, this is how it begins. A slight head start for Dixon and the Blue Miller car pulls away for the opening shot of the season. It's off to Phoenix in two weeks and tune in for the next installment.
