Stock, Super Stock horsepower responses

The following is a list of requests by racers or officials for Stock or Super Stock horsepower increases or reductions, along with a response from the Stock and Super Stock rules sub-committee. The list represents letters received by May 25, 2001. Letters received after that date will be addressed during the next review.

1. Jim Waldo - Questions the shipping weight and factored horsepower ratings of late model Camaro/Firebird.
The shipping weights are submitted by each OEM, no change. The horsepower will be adjusted by the AHFS.

2. Franklin Harvey - Stock horsepower reduction, 1965 Chevrolet 283-220/220 with automatic transmission. Average = .82 14 runs Best 1.26
No change, this combination exceeds the minimum required for horsepower reduction.

3. Sammy Pizzolato - Stock horsepower reduction, 1969 Chevrolet 427-390/385.
3-2 bbl engine has good average. None of this engine in database.
Decrease 5 HP.

4. Bob Dennis - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1984 Olds 307-140/227.
No Change. This engine is the same as the 1986 through 1990 307-220/227 engine.

5. Mike Town - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1970 Chevrolet 350-250/245.
Decrease for GT from 245 to 239 based off database.

6. Kevin Love - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1972 Ford 351-266/310.
Average = .68 in GT. Only 2 runs
Decrease 5 HP.

7. Hans Olsson - Stock Horsepower reduction, 1971 Ford 351-285/320.
Decrease from 320 to 315.

8. Greg Schmutz - Re-evaluate the Stock horsepower, 1964-1967 Dodge/Plymouth 273-180/165 engines.
Average = .458. Reduction of 12/31/2000 was justified.
No change, based off 2000 National Event final qualifying.

9. Bob Shaw - Re-evaluate Stock horsepower, 1985 Chevrolet 262-130/160.
2000 Average = 1.283. None in 2001.
No change, based on 2000 National Event final qualifying and engine evaluation.

10. Gerard Clow - Stock horsepower reduction, 1971 Pontiac 455-335/345.
One run in 2000 = .76
Decrease 10 HP. Different intake manifold, cylinder head and piston from 1972-455-300/335, 2001 run = 1.01.

11. Committee - Stock horsepower reduction, 1971 Buick 350-260/270.
No engines in database.
Decrease 10 HP.

12. Dan Fahey - Stock horsepower reduction, 1969 Chevrolet 350-300/295.
Average = .64 and F/SA class average = .82
Decrease 5 HP.

13. Olin Welborn - Stock horsepower reduction, 1963 Ford 260-164/164.
Decrease from 164 to 158 based off qualifying.

14. Bobby Roper - Review A/S and A/SA indexes.
No change, index changes will not be reviewed until the current season is completed.

15. Fran Bishop - Stock horsepower reduction, 1971 Buick 350-230/230.
No motors in database.
Decrease 10 HP.

16. Trevor Weiss - Stock horsepower reduction, 1967 Chevrolet 396/375/390.
Average = .82, 18 Runs, Best = 1.15.
No Change, this combination exceeds the minimum required for horsepower reduction.

17. Paul Wong - Stock horsepower reduction, 1970 Plymouth 340-290/325.
Average = .71, Best = .76, 2000 data average = .65
Decrease 5 HP.

18. Stan Holt - Stock horsepower reduction, 2000 Chevrolet Corvette 350/345/345.
Average = .86, Best = .76, Class average = .90.
No change, this combination exceeds the minimum requirement for a reduction.

19. Glenn Mace - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1984 Chevrolet 305-150/255.
Average in 2000 = .96, none in 2001, SS/LA average = 1.04
No change, this combination exceeds the minimum requirement for a reduction.

20. Lynn McCarty - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1973 Pontiac 455-290/350.
Average = .72, Best = .71, 2000 average = .75, class average = .80.
Decrease 10 HP.

21. Dwight Southerland - Stock and Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1965 Chevrolet 396-425/425.
Reduce Stock from 425 to 390 and Super Stock from 425 to 395. This brings the 1965 engine in line with the 1966 through 1969 versions.

22. Tom Sheehan - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1970 Dodge 340-275/295.
Decrease from 295 to 288, also reduce the 71-340-275/305 to 295, based off database. This change is for base Super Stock and GT.

23. David Leclaire - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1967 Plymouth 426-425/455.
Decrease 5 HP for Belvedere and Coronet.

24. JP Broberg - Stock horsepower reduction, 1999 Dodge 488-460/425.
More research is required.
No change at this time, insufficient data.

25. Dave Rettig - Stock horsepower reduction, 1973 Plymouth 400-260/305.
Decrease from 305 to 298, based off database.

26. Jason Foster - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1966 Chevrolet 327-275/300 in a Chevy II station wagon. Average .74, high = 1.09, but do we have any SW's?
No change at this time, this combination exceeds the minimum for reduction.

27. Paul Wright - Stock horsepower reduction, 1986 Mercury 114-86/91.
Decrease for automatic transmission cars from 91 to 88, based off qualifying times.

28. John Bender - Stock horsepower reduction, 1967 Plymouth 440-375/365.
Decrease from 365 to 356, based off database.

29. Charles Bohannon - Super Stock horsepower reduction, 1967 Chevrolet 427-400/425.
Decrease from 425 to 419 based off database.

30. Greg Philley - Stock horsepower reduction, 1980 Ford 140- 88/114.
Decrease from 114 to 112, based off database.

31. Alex Denysenko - O/SA 1986 Capri, 302-200/210.
