Jeg's to sponsor lucrative Sportsman Allstars event in Chicago

11/15/2001

Jeg's Automotive, Inc., has reached a multi-year agreement with the NHRA to become the title sponsor of the NHRA Sportsman Allstars event at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago beginning in 2002, NHRA Vice President of Sales and Business Development Bob Wagner announced today.

The 18th annual Jeg's Sportsman Allstars, a race-within-a-race for 64 of the best NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors, will be contested during the second annual NHRA Nationals, Sept. 26-29, at Route 66 Raceway, Joliet, Ill. The event will be televised on ESPN2.

"We're extremely excited to have Jeg's Automotive make the commitment to support our Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series through the very popular Sportsman Allstars event," said Wagner. "For our thousands of sportsman racers, truly the backbone of the NHRA, this is one of the most anticipated events during the season, where individual and team bragging rights are at stake. We look forward to our new association with Jeg's Automotive, ensuring that the Jeg's Sportsman Allstars maintains its status as one of the most thrilling and competitive events for Sportsman racers."

The best racers in the eight NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series categories from each of NHRA's seven geographic regions will compete for team and individual honors and a share of the $100,000 purse in the Jeg's Sportsman Allstars. The winning team will split $20,000 and the winners in the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car categories will earn $7,000 each, while the winners in Competition Eliminator and Super Stock will earn $6,000 each. Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street winners will earn $4,500. Runners-up in all categories will get $2,000.

"We're very proud to become the title sponsor of such a prestigious bonus event where NHRA Sportsman racers are the stars of the show," said Scott Woodruff, director of motorsports marketing for Jeg's Automotive. "While our roots run deep in all levels of NHRA Drag Racing, the Jeg's name has become synonymous with sportsman racing over the years. Through the Jeg's Sportsman Allstars, we want to solidify our support with the entire sportsman community, which accounts for a large portion of our customer base. This is an excellent opportunity for Jeg's and we can't wait to see some of the best drag racing anywhere on display at the 2002 Jeg's Sportsman Allstars event at the spectacular Route 66 Raceway."

The commitment increases Jeg's presence in NHRA Drag Racing. The company also is the primary sponsor for Pro Stock cars driven by Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Troy Coughlin, as well as a major contingency sponsor at NHRA Drag Racing Series events. In addition, the family has some experience in the event as both Jeg and Troy, along with brothers Mike and John, have competed in the Allstar event over the years.

"Our family knows what it takes to be a part of the Allstar race and being a part of this race in the past will help us to make it a better race for all of the participants," said Jeg, a two-time Sportsman Allstars winner for NHRA's North Central Division ('91 Super Gas, '97 Super Stock).

Jeg's Automotive, Inc., with world headquarters in Delaware, Ohio, is a leading supplier of automotive and auto racing parts and equipment. Jeg's was founded in 1960 by Jeg Coughlin Sr. in an effort to supply the growing needs of customers throughout the Midwest. In 1986, Jeg's became a leader in the high performance mail order business when the Coughlin brothers (John, Troy, Mike & Jeg Jr.) purchased Jeg's with the assistance of their father. Jeg's is a leader in the aftermarket high performance business and has grown into a multi-million dollar comapny by providing customers what they want, when they want it, at the price they want to pay -- backed by the best customer service.
