14th Annual

Located in Sonoma Valley's wine country, Sears Point Raceway has hosted the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals since 1988 and is the only track on which Doug Kalitta has never been beaten. Kalitta, who won his first Top Fuel title at this race in 1998, scored his third straight victory in Sonoma when he defeated Larry Dixon in the final. Last year's event also proved to be a pivotal one in the race for the 2000 Winston Funny Car championship. John Force took full advantage of Jerry Toliver's failure to qualify by defeating teammate Tony Pedregon in the final and leapfrogging past Toliver and into the points lead, a lead he would never relinquish. Kurt Johnson won Pro Stock.
