Heartland Park Topeka, which has hosted at least one NHRA national event every year since 1989, again will host the Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in 2001. This year, the event will move from its traditional fall date to May. Last year, Gary Scelzi became the first Top Fuel driver to win seven races in a single season with his final-round victory over Doug Kalitta, breaking one of the oldest records in drag racing, one that had been stuck at six since 1985. John Force collected his 90th career Funny Car victory, and Jeg Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock) and Bob Panella Jr. (Pro Stock Truck) were winners in their respective categories.

The track is on Topeka Boulevard where it intersects Gary Ormsby Drive, four miles south of Interstate 470. From Kansas City, take the Kansas Turnpike (I-70) to the Topeka Boulevard exit and travel south to the track. From Wichita, take the Kansas Turnpike (I-335) to the Topeka Boulevard exit and travel south to the track. From I-470, take the Topeka Boulevard exit and travel south to the track.
