Second Annual

Las Vegas hosted its first NHRA national event last year at state-of-the-art Las Vegas Motor Speedway, located just miles from the fabled Las Vegas strip, and will host a second in 2001 in October. Despite ambient temperatures in the 90s and track temperatures in the treacherous 120-degree range, last year's inaugural event delivered all the color and excitement for which Las Vegas is known. Kenny Bernstein, who hadn't won since the 1998 Winston Finals, and Jim Epler, winless since the 1993 Winston Finals, returned to the winner's circle in Top Fuel and Funny Car, respectively. Jeg Coughlin Jr. won for the fourth time in five races in Pro Stock, and Bob Panella Jr. captured the second of his six 2000 Pro Stock Truck victories.
