Edwards has lane choice against Jeter in round two.(W) Kurt Johnson (AC Delco '01 Chevy Cavalier) 0.491 6.919 200.50 (L) George Marnell (TBA '01 Pontiac Grand Am) 0.535 7.085 198.44Marnell's reaction time wasn't really that bad, but his car spun the tires hard on the launch, posting a 1.102 60-foot time, and by then Kurt was long gone. Kurt wins, with yet another 200 mph run, but loses lane choice to Pawuk in the next round - though judging from the ETs in both lanes, that's not a big issue today.

That ends a thirteen-round win streak for Kurt, his last round loss coming at the second Houston race, last year.(W) Jim Yates (Splitfire/Peak '01 Pontiac Grand 0.471 6.943 198.20 (L) Ron Krisher (Eagle One '00 Pontiac Firebird)0.584 9.588 96.37Krisher was uncharacteristically late at the tree and then his Firebird started to move around in the lane, forcing him to lift. Yates was on time and drove right down the groove for a surprisingly easy win, losing lane choice to jeter in the semifinals.

Results for Elimination Round 3 CHANDLER, Ariz. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Pro Stock at the 17th annual Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals presented by Pennzoil:W/L Driver RT ET Speed (W) Warren Johnson (GM Goodwrench Service '01 Po0.476 6.929 199.08 (L) Mark Pawuk (Summit Racing '01 Pontiac Grand 0.466 6.965 198.262:54 PM A pair of "new look" Grand Ams squared off here and it was a good drag race, Pawuk away with a very small edge and WJ with the quicker car on the top end, taking the lead at half track and never giving it up. Margin of victory = 0.026 seconds (approximately 8 feet).(W) Brad Jeter (Schmidt Racing '01 Pontiac Grand0.432 6.949 197.94 (L) Jim Yates (Splitfire/Peak '01 Pontiac Grand 0.484 6.936 198.76Jeter took a 0.052 edge at the starting line and then Yates started whittling it down. He ran out of racetrack and was unable to erase the advantage. Jeter goes to the finals on a holeshot, the margin of victory = 0.039 seconds (approximately 11 feet). WJ has lane choice against Jeter in the finals, by 0.02 seconds.

Jeter didn't let disparity that influence him at all, slapping a holeshot on "the Professor" and then struggling to keep the lead, ahead at every intermediate timer except the one at the finish line. The win light came in WJ's lane, the margin of victory = 0.001 seconds (approximately 3 inches). Great drag race, WJ edging closer to Bob Glidden's 85-win record by notching his 82nd.
