The newest member of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series ranks, Alexis DeJoria, debuted her new Tequila Patrón Funny Car at a grand gala in downtown Dallas Wednesday night in front of celebrities, friends, family, and media at the upscale venue The Apartment.
Both DeJoria and the dazzling black and green-striped Tequila Patrón Funny Car took center stage at the Tequila Patrón party hosted by DeJoria’s father and renowned entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria. More than 30 national and local media outlets were on hand to chat with DeJoria about her move up to the Professional ranks in one of the world’s quickest and fastest racing classes.
DeJoria begins her eagerly anticipated career in Funny Car after several years of successful competition in Top Alcohol Funny Car, including a recent win at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle.
ESPN2 TV personality Dave Rieff emceed the event, with many of the biggest names in NHRA Drag Racing in attendance as well as celebrities including famed comedian Ron “Tater Salad” White. NHRA President Tom Compton and NHRA stars including Melanie Troxel, Ron Capps, Del Worsham, Leah Pruett, and Courtney Force joined Texas Motorplex owner Billy Meyer and other invited guests to celebrate DeJoria’s advancement to the Pro ranks.
“This is an incredible night and wonderful time for me and my family,” DeJoria said. “This is something I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and now for that dream to finally be coming true is just something amazing. Making the move up to Funny Car with the Kalitta Motorsports team is a perfect fit for me and my family. We already feel like members of the Kalitta family, and that’s very important to me. I’m sure we’re going to have years of success together. I can’t wait.”
The Tequila Patrón Funny Car joins the nitro racing stable of Kalitta Motorsports. The iconic team, led by NHRA Drag Racing legend and pioneer Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta, also fields the DHL Funny Car driven by Jeff Arend, the Technicoat Top Fuel dragster driven by Doug Kalitta, and the Kalitta Air Top Fuel dragster driven by Dave Grubnic, all of whom were in attendance to welcome their new teammate Wednesday night.
