NHRA will showcase NHRA Sportsman competitors in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series when No Problem Raceway Park hosts the second annual Jeg’s.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals this weekend in Belle Rose, La.

For a good cause:

One of the primary community service initiatives for Team Jeg’s is creating awareness for cancer research through the Jeg’s Foundation. On Saturday, kiosks will be set up throughout the track so that competitors and fans can make donations to the Jeg’s Cancer Research Fund. Donations will be accepted throughout the day, and all proceeds will go to cancer research.

In 2003, Jeg Coughlin and his wife, Karen, with the assistance and commitment of the entire Coughlin family, established the Jeg's Foundation to honor several family members whose fight against cancer had been the source of inspiration and courage for others. The foundation supports innovative research and treatments for patients as well as educational efforts to help the public become more aware of the early signs and symptoms of cancer and how they might make healthier choices to protect themselves from developing the disease.

The Jeg's Foundation for Cancer Research is honored to be affiliated with two of only 39 nationally designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at Ohio State University and the Ireland Cancer Center of University Hospitals Health System.

The Jeg’s.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals will feature a guaranteed purse of more than $50,000 and competition in six NHRA Lucas Oil Series categories: Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. NHRA Lucas Oil Series national event points will be awarded to drivers in all categories except Super Street.

"With a new event sponsor in Jeg’s Mail Order providing tremendous support and an exciting race from last year to build on, the Jeg’s.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals at No Problem Raceway Park is evolving into one of the premier NHRA Sportsman events," said Len Imbrogno, NHRA director of Sportsman racing. "Many of the greatest racers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will be on hand to compete at the event, and we have some special events planned that will make the race one to remember."

While the focus of the event will be on competition in the core NHRA Sportsman categories, other special attractions include Super Stock and Stock class eliminations, the Mopar Hemi Super Stock SS/AA Challenge, the U/SA Shootout, and the Engine Builder’s Cup for the Top Sportsman class.

Racers in Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street will compete for bonus cash in the Best Package program and the King of the Bayou best-package Shootout. There also will be a special Jeg’s Gamblers Race on Saturday following the regularly scheduled event competition.

In addition, exhibition racing will include Top Fuel and Pro Mod.

NHRA reintroduced the SPORTSnationals last season at No Problem Raceway Park to rave reviews from racers and spectators. Prior to last season, NHRA hosted the SPORTSnationals at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. (1974-80, 1985-86), the old Houston Int'l Raceway (1981-82), and Indianapolis Raceway Park (1982-83). This season, NHRA will host a second Jeg’s SPORTSnationals event at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio, July 28-31.
