The thrilling 22nd annual California Hot Rod Reunion presented by Automobile Club of Southern California returns to Auto Club Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield Oct. 18-20 for three action-packed days of vintage speed, hot rods, and American automotive enthusiasm.
The action begins Friday, Oct. 18, with electrifying nitro Funny Cars, Top Fuelers, and exhibition runs thundering down the legendary Famoso quarter-mile. Following a day at the track, race fans can hop on board the free shuttle to the host hotel, the DoubleTree Hotel, for the fan-favorite Honoree Reception and award presentation featuring a display of historical vehicles and a tribute to the living legends of the strip.
This year's grand marshal, Butch Leal, will lead an amazing group of drag racing legends, including honorees Tommy Allen, Roy Brizio, Jim DeFrank, Larry Dixon Sr., and John Rasmussen. The Reunion Spotlight will shine on the Crazy Painters, Kelly & Son of Bellflower, Calif. The reception is free and open to all.
The racing excitement continues on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., and the day closes with the fire-throwing spectacular Cacklefest at sunset. The Cacklefest is an experience like no other, in which nitro-burning, historic, front-engine Top Fuel dragsters and other classic race cars are push-started just like in the “old days.” It’s a show for all the senses that will bring nitro tears to your eyes.
There’s also plenty to see and do off the track. Fans can shop for pins, hats, T-shirts, decals, and everything in between at the vendor midway, giant swap meet area, and Reunion Central. Stop by Dynamat’s Dynamic Legends Lounge, adjacent to the Reunion Central tent, for meet and greets with this year’s honorees and legends from hot rodding’s history.
On Sunday, eliminations kick off at 9 a.m. and conclude with the crowning of the 2013 Reunion champions as well as the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series winners. Make your plans now to attend and join thousands of hot rodders and race fans in Bakersfield for the annual reunion.
Produced by the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California, the reunion brings to life the sights, sounds, and people who made history in the early days of drag racing, land speed racing, and the golden age of American car culture.
Tickets are available at the gate for just $25 each day. Auto Club Members, "Show Your Card and Save!" Children 15 and under are admitted free with paid adult admission. For more information about the NHRA Museum and the Hot Rod Reunions, visit www.NHRAmuseum.org or call 909-622-8562.
