NHRA kicked off its new State Championship program last month at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which hosted the NHRA Nevada State Championships, and at Oklahoma Sooner Motorplex, host to the NHRA Oklahoma State Championships. In the program, geared toward the NHRA Summit Racing Series and announced late last year, one NHRA member track in each state or Canadian province hosts the event each year. The event will rotate each year among the member tracks in each region.

The Nevada State Championships opened the series in early May, and The Strip crowned the first seven NHRA Nevada state champions: Doug Carter (Super Pro), Steve Kachoian (Pro), Lyndzi Powers (Sportsman), Kahea Woods (Motorcycle), Vanessa Hodges (High School), Vince Generalao (Jr. Dragster Lightning), and Kylie Wakenhut (Jr. Dragster Thunder).
