I had a humbling yet awesome experience last weekend.
My family and I had the honor of hosting some of the biggest names in NHRA Full Throttle Series drag racing, my ‘One Ford’ teammates John Force and Tim Wilkerson, at our Ford dealership in Cranston, R.I.
Fourteen years ago, my grandfather Bob Tasca Sr. hosted the first car show and since then it’s grown into something that has a life of its own. I’m so proud to say it may even be the biggest car show in New England.
We scheduled a little bit of everything for fans. We wanted to show everyone what Ford and NHRA Full Throttle Series Drag Racing has to offer!
My Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang Funny Car team started up our car. If you’ve ever seen one of our dragsters start up in person, you know the expressions that were on their faces! I always look forward to sharing my passion for racing with our customers.
We had live music. We gave away trophies at the car show. I was pretty impressed by the cars that people showed up with. You can tell they really take care of them.
I said when I spoke in front of everyone, the car show really represents everything my grandfather believed in. He was so passionate about racing and he had that same passion for his customers and for the automobile. To have one of the biggest car shows in New England at our dealership for all of the families that come out and have fun for a day is a real tribute to my grandfather. I said as a family, we’re very lucky with what he left behind.
What we cherish the most are our customers that have supported our family throughout the years and have supported racing, and to have an event that celebrates all that my grandfather loved and also raises thousands of cans of food for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank (price of admission was two canned goods) is just amazing for us. We hope it was an amazing experience for everyone involved.
You can tell from the photos that John, Tim and I had a lot of fun. We signed autographs for four hours. It was an endless line of people.
John and I stopped by for a photo op with the Factory Five 33 Hot Rod by Tasca – I love the blazing yellow paint scheme.
You may not know this, but my Uncle Carl Tasca races the family’s Cobra Jets. One of his cars was there, too.
For the Tasca family, racing is a huge part of our everyday family life. My grandfather started it all with “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday,” of course, but between Carl, myself and even Bob IV, a day doesn’t go by where we’re not talking about racing or at a track somewhere around the country.
Wish us luck in Charlotte. We made it to the final round at zMAX Dragway in the spring and judging by the weather reports, we could see some records fall!
