Texas Motorplex is one of three all-concrete dragstrips on the schedule (the first of its kind when it opened), which provide optimum traction and allow crew chiefs the opportunity to achieve national record performances. The event, which is the third chance for Countdown teams to earn points and is in 2010 celebrating its silver anniversary, takes place just a week after the Charlotte event, making for a long tow and a quick turnaround for the championship-hungry teams.
2009 recap: Tony Schumacher, Robert Hight, Greg Anderson, and Hector Arana scored huge playoff victories. Schumacher, who defeated points rival Larry Dixon, and Hight, who bested Jack Beckman, used their respective wins in Top Fuel and Funny Car to springboard into the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series points lead as the Countdown to 1 playoffs hit the one-third mark with race two of six. Arana won Pro Stock Motorcycle with a final-round victory against reigning world champ Eddie Krawiec, which kept him ahead of the two-wheeled pack, and former world champ Anderson moved from sixth to third with his final-round victory in Pro Stock against Johnny Gray.
