ESPN2 also offers coverage of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. NHRA Drag Racing also is aired in Canada on TSN.

ESPN TV show should be packed with drama

The 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series kicks off this weekend with the 52nd annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The start of the season means those not attending the event can catch all the action on ESPN2 and ESPN2HD.

Saturday’s qualifying broadcast will begin on ESPN2/ESPN2HD at 11 p.m. (ET)/8 p.m. (PT).
Sunday Race Day coverage features 3-1/2 hours of wall-to-wall coverage in prime time, beginning at 7:30 p.m. (ET)/4:30 p.m. (PT).

Besides the racing action on the track, news from the offseason, and what to expect in 2012, we encourage viewers to look for the following in-depth storylines during the two broadcasts:

Who Will Win The Auto Club Road to the Future Award? A strong list of candidates, headed up by Alexis DeJoria and Courtney Force, means this year’s campaign is more exciting than ever. Who are the leading candidates and what do they have to say?

Changeover at Team Al Anabi: The past two Full Throttle top fuel champions, Larry Dixon and Del Worsham, step out of the cockpit and are replaced by two talented drivers: Shawn Langdon and Auto Club Road to the Future Award candidate Khalid alBalooshi. The Return of Jeg Coughlin, Jr.: After a year away from the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Jeg Coughlin Jr. returns to the Pro Stock class in a quest to earn his 5th Full Throttle World Championship. Among the most competitive racing in all of motorsports, the task will be challenging given it’s a new team, new car and new engine program. Where does Jeg Coughlin stack up against the competition?
