Scott Weney, a longtime NHRA competitor in the nitro and alcohol Funny car ranks and the president of the family business, S&W Race Cars, which has built race cars and supplied parts to the drag racing community since it was founded by his father, Walt, in 1959, died Nov. 19. He was 55.
In addition to his pass Funny Car activity, Weney recently completed in the Super Comp and Super Gas ranks.
Weney is survived by his wife, Candi; sons Rory & Dillon; brothers Michael and Gary; sister Terri; and parents Walter and Vonda.
“The entire Weney family wants to express their gratitude to everyone who has prayed and offered support during these difficult days,” the company said in an email to friends in the racing community. “They also wanted to clearly state that Scott spent his last moments at a place that he considered ‘home,’ which is the dragstrip. His accomplishments are many and too numerous to list, but his most impressive include winning the 2000 IHRA Funny Car world championship, becoming the president of S&W Race Cars, and his latest achievement of becoming a race series promoter, forming S&S Race Promotions with Scotty Richardson and launching the ‘Fun in the Sun’ Race Series. John Force Racing has announced a multi-year sponsorship with Lucas Oil Products. The announcement makes Lucas Oil the “Official Oil of John Force Racing” and the Corona, California based company will have signage on all the John Force Racing Funny Cars and the Top Fuel dragster as well as driver uniforms and race transporters beginning in 2015.

Force winner of sixteen Mello Yello Funny Car championships has almost 1,200 round wins and 141 Funny Car race wins to his credit. The entire John Force Racing team has 237 Funny Car victories, the most by any NHRA racing organization in one class, and is chasing down their 19th team Mello Yello Funny Car championship this weekend at the 50th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona.

Race fans will get to see the popular Jim Dunn Racing Mooneyes Tribute Funny Car compete this weekend at the 2014 Auto Club NHRA finals in Pomona. And as a bonus, they will also get to see their Grime Boss Dodge Funny Car at a California Home Depot.
The Grime Boss Funny Car will be on display Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Home Depot on McKinley Street in Corona, Calif. Fans will be able to meet team owner Jim Dunn and get his autograph.
Beginning on Friday at the NHRA Auto Club Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, the Jim Dunn Racing team will be running a newly designed Mooneyes Tribute Funny Car.
Only at the Jim Dunn Racing pit this weekend, fans can get a special Mooneyes-themed souvenir card. The double-sided hero card shows the evolution of the Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes Funny Cara throughout the years.
“Mooneyes is really part of the Jim Dunn Racing family. They have been with us through the years and we are grateful for their support,” said team manager Jon Dunn. “The Mooneyes car is also a huge hit with the fans. We love bringing it out in Pomona in front of our hometown crowd. I’m also excited about the Mooneyes souvenir cards and I invite all of our fans over to our pits to pick one up.”
