NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car points leader Robert Hight, winner of four of the season’s first five events, narrowly missed winning the first-quarter voting for the Driver of the Year Foundation.

An elite panel of 21 broadcasters and journalists selected Australia’s Will Power, winner of two straight IndyCar races, for the top spot by one point. Power had eight first-place ballots and totaled 99 points. Hight, driver of the Auto Club Mustang for John Force Racing, also recorded eight first-place votes and garnered 98 points.
