NHRA officials cancelled the first two rounds of qualifying on Friday at the 32nd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway after rain and persistent mist. NHRA Mello Yello Series qualifying is set to begin as scheduled on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11:15 a.m.

Doug Doll Jr. all but wrapped up the 2016 Comp national championship when he drove to victory at the NHRA Carolina Nationals, his third national event win of the season. Doll's win highlighted competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at the event, which awarded Wallys to drivers in nine classes, ranging from Top Alcohol Dragster to Top Sportsman.

Since then, no other Funny Car driver has gone back to back.

When a Top Fuel car bangs the blower it happens in an instant; all you see in real time is a flash, but in an instant numerous engine parts are damaged and because the car has lost power it throws the driver forward in his or her seat.
