Another rainy day in Indy, but ...

To no one’s great surprise, Isaac is making its presence well-known throughout Indiana, and Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis is not escaping its brunt. Rain continues to fall, sometimes hard, sometimes just a patter, but wet nonetheless.

NHRA officials are monitoring the weather predictions and radar, and we’re still hopeful that there will be a clearing later today to run cars, including the Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Funny Cars and final qualifying for all Full Throttle classes. All scheduled Sportsman activity for the day, including the final session for Pro Mods, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Top Alcohol Funny Cars, has been scuttled, but those fields have not been finalized at this time.

Either way, like yesterday, we’re in for an extended wait before we see any action today, so to keep you entertained, below you can find a selection of photos from the previous two days. Stay tuned to the home page Twitter feed for the latest developments throughout the day.

Fans were entertained Friday by a variety of old-school gassers taking part in an eight-car shootout.

Jet cars were also part of the Friday entertainment mix.

Shawn Dill, left, who restored Terry Capp's mid-1970s Top Fueler, got together with the man himself to show off his pride and joy. Capp won the 1980 U.S. Nationals with current John Force crew chief Bernie Fedderly tuning. Dill is a crewmember on the Al-Anabi Top Fuel team.

Charlie Westcott Jr. not only collected the $10,000 first prize for winning the Mopar Hemi Shootout for the fifth time but also the $500 awarded to the low qualifier.

Pat Dakin lit up the night Friday with this explosion in his Top Fuel dragster.

Four-time world champ Gary Stinnett (above), who won the U.S. Nationals way back in 1994, is one of seven drivers still in the hunt in Super Comp. Tommy Phillips (below) has a chance to make Indy history as the first to win in two classes; he's in the quarterfinals of both Super Comp and Super Gas. No driver has ever scored wins in two classes at the same U.S. Nationals though three have come close: Pat Austin (Top Alcohol Funny Car win/Top Fuel runner-up, 1991), David Rampy (Super Comp win/Comp runner-up, 1998), and Scotty Richardson (Stock win/Super Comp runner-up, 1996).

Spencer Massey was quite excited to claim the $100,000 winner's purse in the Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Top Fuel on Saturday.

Persistent rains have forced NHRA officials to cancel the final two qualifying sessions of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Auto-Plus at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on Sunday. The fields for all the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series categories — Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle — have been set by the qualifying sessions that took place on Friday and Saturday.
