In addition to the spectacular four-wide event in the spring, the newest facility in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series also hosts a crucial spot on the schedule as the first event in the Countdown and the race at which teams battle for traction in their title bids. The event is the first of what will be a grueling four straight weekends of Countdown racing that last until the first week of October.
2011 recap: Matt Hagan became the first Funny Car driver in NHRA history to make a three-second run, taking the No. 1 qualifying spot Friday with a 3.995-second run, then backed up his national record-setting run Sunday en route to his first win of the season. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Kurt Johnson (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also winners in their respective categories at the first of six races in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship.
